Today I had the pleasure of attending the YWCA Persimmon Luncheon at The Renaissance in Asheville, NC.
I have a personal connection to the YWCA as a Black woman who, when I first moved here, lived within less than a mile of its historic location. I can’t thank the staff enough for waking up everyday to eliminate racism, empower women and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.
Today was all about Beth Mackza passing the baton to Libby Kyles. I had the pleasure of facilitating both the staff and community listening sessions. I personally feel that the YWCA is lucky to have her.
Libby Kyles grew up within the Asheville YWCA community. She has been a public school teacher for almost two decades, and has been a force for children and supporting families as the co-founder and Executive Director of the YTL Program (Youth Transformed for Life), an organization that creates bridges for children and families to overcome gaps of disparity.
More than that, Libby is my friend. She has a true heart for community and she understands the value of investing in our children.
